Chad,
This initiative by the mayor is definitely good news. Charleston needs to adopt a green outlook and then live by it. It's that last part that's hard to put in place. Unfortunately you can't rely on the citizens, the city has to take the lead here. I attended the Maritime Festival, and the organizers provided recycling containers (clearly marked), but they were half full of non-recyclable material. Let's keep an eye out during the next couple of weeks and see how recycling is conducted by the organizers of Spoleto and Piccolo Spoleto. In the few events I've attended so far (one third of the way through the festival), the city is doing pretty well, but if recycling isn't instituted for the larger events, like the Piccolo Finale, we can't consider the initiative very serious.
