Much to my surprise, I actually made it to the Green Drinks Charleston meeting on Wednesday night at The Trusted Palate. I was impressed by the turnout, and it was refreshing being around a smart, passionate crowd geared-up about going green. It seemed like almost everyone had their own business, nonprofit, or research project underway…here’s a sample.
- I had a great time talking to Mary Gatch about all the chemicals that are off-gassed from our electronic equipment. She seemed to know a ton about keeping it simple and natural indoors, and I’m excited to see her company Dwell Smart take off.
- Then both Mary and I had a lively chat with Magdalyn Duffie from Save Shem Creek about the super good tap water in Mount Pleasant, and whether or not pipes actually lead to contamination.
- Stacey Littlefield, the program manager of Lowcounty Earth Force, was also at our table riffing with a group of marine biologists and environmental lawyers.
And don’t forget about Jason Cronin, the Green Drinks ring leader. He had a newsletter for us all (thanks for the Go Green props!), and kept everyone talking and having a good time. This was the 4th meeting since being founded in 2006, and Jason said not only was this meeting the biggest, but it had a lot of first timers. Like me!
I hope to see you all at the next meeting…Cheers!
