Identify Paperboard verses Cardboard

If you really want to reduce what you’re sending there, get vigilant about recycling your paperboard. You’ll be amazed at how much paperboard you go through…check out what my family collected in 2 weeks. Give it a shot, but remember - these two materials go to two different places, yet look very similar. Use the photo and info below to help you out.

Corrugated cardboard has a distinct waffle pattern in the material, and is typically more durable. You’ll find it in boxes used for shipping, moving, products, and toys. It can be recycled at drop sites throughout the Charleston County.
Paperboard packaging material is often brown like cardboard, but is very flat - usually 1-2mm. It’s used to make containers for things like cereal, beer, toothpaste, crackers, medicine, etc. It can be recycled curbside or at drop sites with other paper products.
