Last Sunday I begrudgingly unpacked and hung 8 strands of old school, incandescent lights on my hedges and trees. Sure I want LED lights, but I don’t have the cash to just replace the strands I already have. I’m thinking of buying a few LED strands to get the ball rolling, but I’ll still be using precious energy by putting decorative lights in my yard. Now I’m wondering if I should have lights at all. Maybe you are having the same green crisis, so let’s figure it out together…

What are you doing to green up your Christmas light situation? Let us know.

Ta-da! The answer to your needs: solar christmas lights!

I haven’t bought any…but they look like a happy green product! Maybe they’ll be on sale after Christmas for use next year!

Who knew that solar power had found a way to make christmas greener. Sometimes I have to take a big breath and tell myself it’s ok - and plugging in the Christmas lights is one of those times. Maybe its the eggnog, but there is something about all those ights that just makes me feel good!

You could go old school (really really old school) by using hand crafted luminaries. While luminaries may not meet all of your holiday lighting needs, at least: 1. You can involve the whole family with creating and decorating each bag, and 2. All the materials are either recyclable or will be consumed.
