Recycling Drop Site Could Be Improved
Posted by Chad Norman December 27th, 2007 .I was up on 17 North, so I stopped by the Charleston County Recycling drop site located at the Berkeley Electric Co-Op. I have to say, I was less than impressed. I was only out there to take a photo for our Green Maps section, and thank goodness because it isn’t a recycling-friendly environment.

The 50′ x 20′ dead end pull-off sits on a 60 mph stretch of 17 North. The bin sits in a low spot near the back, and has that “flooded all the time” feel - there was ankle-deep water surrounding it when I visited. There isn’t even a cardboard bin, which is the big ticket item we can’t recycle curbside
I commend the Co-Op for allowing their land to be used (a recycling bin attracts a lot of illegal dumping), but I think Charleston County Recycling can do better. I mean, this is the nearest drop site for huge neighborhoods like Park West, Charleston National, Whitehall Terrace, not to mention Wando High School. What message does this send?
Feel free to call 720-7111 or email them if you’d like to see this improved.
