Gee, New Diapers
Posted by Jennifer Norman January 23rd, 2008 .
I have pushed my buggy past gDiapers at Whole Foods many times. I have read their starter kit package at least twice. Last Sunday, I bought the starter kit of gDiapers and began using them on my two-year-old son that afternoon.
We’ve been a Pampers family since we brought Cooper home from the hospital four and a half years ago. I can’t even think about all the diapers I’ve thrown away. But, now, I am taking control. I will continue to persevere with these biodegradable, flushable diapers.
I have gone from using eight disposable diapers per day to one (overnight,) that is an 88% reduction.
They seem to have temporarily ended my debate over cloth vs. disposable diapers. The icky factor isn’t too bad - and I gag easily. I don’t know if I could tolerate these diapers with a newborn. Their little digestive systems metabolize so quickly, I don’t think I’d have the patience to go through the process every time. Plus, well, you know, things are rather runny.
So far though, little Graham’s behind is happy to be wearing gDiapers. I certainly don’t mind the little bit extra effort gDiapers require. We’ve had a couple of accidents, probably because he protests diaper changes so I rush. The accidents washed quickly and easily in my sink.
I’m finally trying to keep Graham’s potty and poos out of landfills.

Well, congratulations on making the switch to Gdiapers. As you indicated, a great help to the environment and I am sure little Grahams behind is happy as well.
However I can’t help but think that his little poos would somehow “help” the biodegradable requirements of the landfill.

We have used cloth diapers from day one. We use a combination of gDiapers and Fuzzy Buns. For those who are not interested in cleaning the diapers themselves there are services that will do this for you. They provide you with a pale that you put the diapers in and set out side your door and they pick up the dirty ones and drop off clean ones (much like the milk delivery service of old). I have been told that it is about the same cost as disposable diapers. For the times that you have to use a disposable I recommend Seventh Generation brand diapers and are available at Whole Foods and Wild Oats. They use no bleach and they biodigrade faster than other disposables.
There is a local business that sells cloth diapers, hemp and organic cotton, wipes, slings etc…

Thanks Amber…we’ve got them in our Local Guide —–>
We have used cloth from day one and while I dont find it icky, I did find the gDiapers a great alternative to the cloth and sposies for outings and long road trips.
Does anyone know of any other local stores that carry cloth diapers and training pants besides palmettodiaperwork ?
I am one of the founders of Eden’s Baby. Our main store is in Texas, but I live here and teach cloth diapering and baby wearing classes as well as host baby showers. We are a full line mom and baby boutique specializing in natural, organic products and we carry a lot of made in the USA products.
Feel free to contact me with questions about cding or any other questions.
