I noticed something wrong on my recycling bin the other day, and an email to Charleston County Recycling confirmed it — this info was out of date.

It says, “No Packaging Boxes (i.e. cereal, laundry, or soda can boxes)”, noting that cardboard can be taken to drop site. Because my bins were made before February 2007, when Charleston County Recycling began accepting paperboard packaging curbside, it has incorrect information (newer bins have bin updated).

We need all you Charleston Greenies to continue telling friends, family, and neighbors that paperboard CAN be recycled curbside right here in Charleston County. It is important for everyone to know this, because it is used everywhere in our lives. With a little eduction, we can take a big chunk out of what we’re sending to the landfill.

Taking this material to a recycle center does not make Green sense – save $0.50 worth of material by expending several dollar worth of gas to get it there – need curb side pickup.

Rick…the whole point of this post is that paperboard CAN be recycled curbside. Sorry if my writing didn’t make that clear – I’ve made some edits that should help.

Your point is true for cardboard recycling though. I find it ridiculous that cardboard can’t be picked-up curbside. When I drive to the dropsite, I often find it stuffed to the top with boxes laying in the parking lot. My neighborhood has a 78% recycling rate – seems like it would be easier for the county if they just picked it up.

Large package boxes I could see, but there’s no reason why small boxes, like those used for cereal, shouldn’t be picked-up. You’re right Chad, every time I’ve been to the Whipple Rd. Recycling Center the bins have been overflowing.

Again, cereal boxes and 12-pack boxes ARE paperboard – they WILL get picked up along with all your other paper. They will not pick up cardboard.

The drop site containers need an update too. They only list newspaper, magazines and office paper as recyclable. The containers compartment at the drop sites also lists aluminum foil as recyclable too which is no longer the case in Charleston county.

Let me start off by saying that I’m a cat lover. I love cats.Indoor cats. Cats who are well cared for and loved.
Our next door neighbors, who are good people and we have no complaint about, are animal lovers too. They also have three cats. Outdoor
cats. Oh, and three dogs. Outdoor dogs. (Their back yard is maybe about 4/10′s of an acre?) Well, you can imagine that the outdoor cats
don’t feel like spending time with the outdoor dogs… why should they when they can so easily hop the fence and spend time in OUR yard?
Ordinarily, it wouldn’t bother me at all to have a cat roaming through our yard. I LIKE cats. But these guys are wearing out their
    welcome.
Our poor cats stand at the windows unable to chase those cats off of their territory. We used to let our cats out every now and t
hen to chew the monkey grass or sniff around (they’re declawed… we have to stay with them to make sure they don’t escape). We
can’t anymore… the neighbor’s cats scent sends one of our males into a frenzy whereby he attacks our other cats.
We can’t leave our garage door up anymore (they pee in our garage). I can’t enjoy the birdfeeder anymore (they stalk the birds).
And just now, I went outside and discovered our yard smells like one of those crazy cat lady houses.
