Go Green Charleston friend and contributor Melanie Milonas sent me a quick email this morning about a local company planning to use priuses (prii?) as taxi cabs. What a cool idea!

I have not been able to find out any more info. There is a parked domain at charlestongreentaxi.com, as well as some official state paperwork. If any of you greenies have the details, please let us know in the comments.

I’ve seen one in West Ashley. It was a neon green hybrid Toyota Camry, with Green Taxi written on the side, marked up like a taxi normally is.

I did some searching too and found the following:

    Charleston Green Taxi service 819-0846
offers a flat $25 fee for airport delivery or pickup to any MUSC badge holder. Ride in a Prius hybrid, help reduce the carbon footprint of transportation, and be kind to the environment. Managed by former MUSC employee! “Travel Safe and Clean…Go Green” 843-819-0846

I see it frequently in town.

    Thanks for the info Mel!

Matthew - Green Taxi is just a regular cab company. The guy that started it has a last name of ‘Green’. This is going to cause some confusion for both companies I have a feeling…

I saw a Prius taxi in Asheville, NC and a local company here in Charleston - landscaping or architect I think - has its name stuck on the side of one.

Also in Asheville, riding behind a city bus, you smell french fries so they are using alternative fuel.

@chad Really? A green hybrid cab and it’s not the same thing? Amazing.

  7. 7 Chad Norman

Oops, sorry Matthew…I was reading comments really quickly this morning. That probably IS this new company then.

  8. 8 Charleston Green Taxi LLC

    Hey fellow greenies,
This is Chris Nichols/ AJ Franklin we are Charleston Green Taxi LLC. We currently operate two Toyota Priuses and one Toyota Camry hybrid. To answer some questions I have seen posted: We do offer the $25 dollar airport drop offs for MUSC employees. The $25 rate is only applicable from the downtown MUSC offices. If you live or operate outside of downtown we would be willing to pick you up for $5 off our current rates for your location. Airport pick ups are way too time consuming for us at the current stage in our development. Also they typically do not run smooth, flight delays, or delays with baggage claim.
Charleston Green Taxi LLC takes pride in providing 5 star services in environmentally friendly vehicles. We will always provide accurate pick up times and we also accept reservations from 6am-12pm. Already we have steady relationships with Charleston Place Hotel, Wentworth Mansion, Cypress, Comfort Inn, and a plethora of other regular callers. We are always looking for more local support!

Charleston Green Taxi LLC has no affiliation with “Greens Taxi.” For the Travel Safe and Clean Go Green Charleston Green Taxi LLC our phone number is 843-819-0846. If you all have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to call us at anytime. We look forward to servicing you and hope to see you all in near future. The more you all use us the easier it will be to make Green the new Yellow for our area! GO GREEN!

In Vancouver, BC, it seems as though half the taxis are Priuses. The cab drivers (and the public) love them.

How do the Priuses work in the snow?
