Couldn't agree more! I absolutely love Rukes Fruit and Vegetable stand on Mathis Ferry. With young children, I do buy apples and pears from the West Coast, but at least I can count on Ruke to supply us with delicious local produce to fill our tummies until Fall (and at my convenience!)

I know it's a bummer the CSA's don't resume until OCTOBER :(

But don't let the momentum stop with the local produce! If you're garden is struggling in the summer heat (pollinators slack off in the swelter), and you're tempted to go back to the grocery store for your produce, remember you can still go to straight to the farms or the faremers' markets to get yer produce fix while the CSA program's are inactive. Plus, if you keep your eyes peeled, there are local produce stands just about everywhere. If you can't get sea island produce, upstate goodies are next best... the peaches are delicious!
