Our holiday green poll ending with unsurprising results: A vast majority of Go Green readers were consuming less this holiday season as a way to increase their sustainability. In troubled economic times, it makes as much financial sense as green sense to cut the consumerism cord. But don’t cut all the way – support the local small businesses that help create sustainable economic activity.

How else are you greening up this year? Let us know in our new poll (over to the right), or share something in the comments. We’re looking at green options for some home improvements this year, but have already kicked off the new year by greening up our new baby.

Feel free to participate in the holiday poll if you missed it – the more data we have the better!

How are you greening the holidays?

I’ve done a lot so far in the last few months… Moved to Mixson (Leed Silver certified homes), switched my real estate business to 100% recycled paper, trading my grand cherokee in for a Civic Hybrid, and finished my EcoBroker real estate training.

My goal for the rest of the year is to find even more ways to run the real estate business as greenly as possible.

Thanks for sharing Seth! The personal stuff is great, and I especially like to hear about businesses making changes (like recycled paper). This stuff reduces the impact of the business itself, but often has residual effects as ideas and habits get taken home by the staff. Going green is contagious!

We continue to make green changes that are viable for our lifestyle. After moving into a new (to us) place last spring we installed a solar hot water system. I am line drying almost all of our clothes – a rack purchased from IKEA can hold an entire load of laundry for our family of 4. In the next few months we are making a plan to optimize garden space. Luckily our home already had a gutter system, and we are going to set up rain barrel’s at each downspout to use for watering
It’s great to hear what Seth is doing. Mixson is an inspirational plan for a community – and love to hear about the vehicle upgrade!
