A big part of charting our family’s progress is keeping track of the “since we’ve used” items (3 years since we’ve used paper napkins, 2.5 years since we’ve used plastic bags, 2 years since we’ve used bottled water, etc). There seem to be many things that end of up in the landfill after once use, and most of these we really don’t need. Reducing our use of these things can greatly decrease the impact of our lives.
What are you working on eliminating? Oil-based gas, plastic bags, food from far off continents? Bottled water, dirty electricity, resource-intensive meat? Let us know in the new Go Green Poll.

I no longer live in Charleston. My husband and I moved to State College Pa where thankfully public transit exists! So we sold our second car and we bus it to school. Next semester we plan on syncing our college schedules so we can go in at the sane time and leave together. We have a bike on loan and were trying to use it more to go into town.
I also made my husband calculate the cost of a return trip to downtown and back home considering insurance payment, car payment in adition to our fantastic gas milage. It was about $8 compared to $1.25 for the bus. And that didn’t include car maintenance and repairs. So now ge wants to sell hiscar and live exclusively without a car! Score!
I am focused on simply consuming less. Buying something only when it is truly needed, and when I do buy something I try to buy something with less packaging or something made locally. It can be tough, but it saves me money as well because in the end i will usually not buy something unless I really really need it.
`~” that seems to be a great topic, i really love it ;::
